Funeral for a Soldier by Victoria R.

I can’t move, have to stand still
Try to hold tears against my will
Silence hovers over the crowd
We are the ones who are so proud.

Surrounded by soldiers who cared
Can’t help but think, were you scared?
Guns up, ready...set...fire! Loud.
We are the ones who are so proud.

The flag that covered over you
Is folded and taps begin too
Tears roll down faces of the crowd
We are the ones who are so proud.

This was a poem that really made me think. I could picture the scene of the soldier's funeral easily. The poem had a good rhyme scheme. The refrain reinforced the pride and honor of soldiers. This poem has a sad mood, but it made me think of the soldiers who are dying for our country. The poem that I posted on the blog was also about soldiers. Lately there have been many songs written about the ones who serve our country, and their pride.

I can picture the funeral really well. I've never been to a funeral. The refrain is so good. People are always talking about how soldiers are proud, but really we are the ones who should be proud of them. This is a very literal poem and that is a good thing. There really aren't any metaphors. The rhythm is effective at keeping things going. I'm very sad after reading this poem. So many of these funeral have been held lately, so many people have lost their lives.

After reading the poem i can picture the scenes in my head. The words you used were very descriptive and told a story. The rhymes in the poem were very effective and created a nice flow. By the end of the poem i felt understanding to the families who lost soldiers. I felt this way becasuse of the emotions shown in the poem.

Great poem, vicki. You used great imagery and I could really picture the funeral in my head. I also feel like i can imagine how the people in the poem must feel, even though I've never been to a soldier's funeral. After reading the poem, i felt the pain of the people in the poem. I thought your refrain was very strong and tied the whole poem together.

After reading this poem, I could really see a soldier in the act of fighting, and then afterwards, a funeral with a lot of sad people.
I think that the refrain was strong, and it really futher reinforced the poem's point. I liked how it had no "deeper meaning", and anything it had to say was said bluntly with no metaphors. After reading this, I feel reflective... I'd never given that much thought to the soldiers before.
