Soldier by Meg M.

There is someone who gives his life
Though pain and strife
Are what he lives
For what he gives.

He has people waiting at home
For him to come
Or wait and see
Where he will be.

His days and nights filled with violence
Waits for silence
For love and peace
For war to cease.

meaghan i think your poem is truly inspiring and it made me begin thinking about how much the soldiers do for us, and how they risk their lives at home to save ours. this poem was truly inspiring and i liked the way it described the soldiers life without including the truth of the wars without the grusome details. but this poem has a deep meaning and serves justice to the lives of the soldiers fighting in the war.

I liked this poem Meg =)

It really made me think about how much soldiers sacrifice for their country. I love how it doesn't really drag politics into it, but just discusses the personal life of each soldier, which is often overlooked. You stayed within the rhyme scheme really well without the poem sounding akward or forced. The poem made me feel a little sad for all the families that are missing members because of war, but also made me feel hopeful because it shows how strong the bond of love is. The first thing this reminded me of was one of my own poems, because i rhymed life and strife in one of mine too.

This poem was very powerful and carried a lot of meaningful words and statements. After reading this poem I thought of a soldier in Iraq having to go about his daily business not knowing about his family back home or if he will event make it through teh day. It also made me think about all that soldiers sacrifice for us and the every day private really does not get to much credit for it. This poem had godd rhyme and imagery that helped make the poem go along smoothly while painting a detailed picture. I felt sort of sad and forlorn after reading this poem because soldiers have some big problems at war and and worrying about home. This poem reminds me of another poem I read by my author of choice in the poem anthology. ALthough this poem was not about a soldier particulary it got across a lot of the points that you did: being alone, not knowing about your family, etc. This poem was a very good one.

I love you poem. I think you did a great job. It made me think of all the thing soldiers do for our country to keep us safe. I think the poem was very deep and even though you didn't use violent words or details, you got the truth about war. I agree with connie in the sense that you don't drag politics into your poem. War isn't about that, its about the people who fight it and their families. The poem made me feel sad and sorry for everyone involved in the war effort, but the poem is amazing. The rhyme scheme was great and it made the poem have a very smooth read.

Reading this poem made me think about how soldiers practically give up their lives to make ours better, and it made me sad. I really liked your rhyming in the first stanza, with the phrase being broken up the way it was. I don’t think people in the army are really appreciated the way they should be, and your poem reminds me that I need to be thankful for all that they do. I haven’t come across many other poems like yours.
